My dad is more awesome then your dad

Didn't wanna COMPLETELY derail my other thread, so I am making this one to shamelessly boast about my dad.

Also, he was a drummer in a band though they never became famous, because they never bothered reforming after their military service.

My Dad is the furthest thing from a badass, but is notable for his calmness.

When he was teaching me to drive (I was about 17) I was driving down some two lane backroad out on the outer suburbs of Melbourne. As I sped towards a train crossing, I noticed a man stopping traffic on the other side of the road. However, there was no one on my side. Me, being stupid, didn't quite do the logic on the fact that if a man was stopping traffic then it was because a train was coming through, and therefore both lanes would have to stop. I just didn't think.

So I rolled forwards at the 80kph I was doing. As I approached the crossing I heard HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK ! as the train thundering towards the crossing saw my fool ass and honked me. At this point it was all reaction, but I luckily did the right thing. There was no way I was going to stop my car before the intersection. I floored it, and we lurched forwards. I thundered over the crossing. We didn't exactly catch air, but I felt the car get light as we went over the rise. The train crashed through just behind us, probably missing the back corner of the car by a foot or two. If I'd tried to stop or had even not accellerated, it would have hit us for sure.

Thirty seconds later, my sister who was sitting in the back seat is still screaming. I am repeating the word 'FUCK!'. When we eventually stop my Dad in the passenger's seat looks over at me and cool as a cucumber says, 'It didn't hit us.' If that was my kid, I'd still be kicking his ass today.
