So I went to see The Green Hornet. I know, I know, my life is a neverending series of bad decisions.
Anyway, there was a regular screening in 20 minutes but there was a 3D showing when I got there, so I went for the 3D. Now I haven't seen a 3D movie for about 10 years. This was the first of the 'new' series of 3D movies I've seen, from the last couple of years. And I gotta say, i'm not sure about this whole business.
There's basically two things going on. Either 1) regular shit that doesn't need augmentation. People talking, walking around etc. This makes up about 98% of the movie. Then there's 2) the action sequences which are obviously designed to show off the 3D effets. The problem is that, for me anyway, I just find the effects to be really distracting. You 'pop out' of the movie, becoming very aware of the fact that you're sitting in a theater watching a show. So for me, its a lose/lose proposition.
My girl who was with me at the time agreed in the case of The Green Hornet, but said she'd seen Avatar in 3D and it was pretty good. Not having seen that film in 3D I can't really comment. But for me, I don't think I'll bother with it again.
