Another action game from Square Enix. So when did Squeenix start making all these action games ? I always associated them with RPGs like Final Fantasy and so on. I know they published Just Cause 2 and whatnot. Anyway ...
Mindjack, actually a pretty nice concept. You're a kind of floating consciousness that can inhabit bodies, kind of like the old game Messiah on ... PC ? PSX ? This is more of a straight shooter than that game though. Unfortunately though it's let down by some serious gameplay flaws.
First is that there's no real penalty for dying. When you 'die', you're actually just kicked out of your current body, whereon you can immediately enter another. When that dies, you can move again. And your main body gets healed while you're away, so you can always switch back. I've not yet found a case where you run out of bodies so inhabit. So the penalty for dying is ... ?
Also, this is obviously geared strongly towards multiplayer. So for example you start every level with nothing but a pistol. Even if you carry weapons through from the last level, they disappear. This is obviously to create a level playing field for multiplayer modes.
And the level design is simply horrible. It's big on throwing you into an arena and throwing waves and waves of enemies at you, trapping you there until you clear them all out and then letting you move on to the next arena. Really boring stuff.
The idea had potential, but the game is shit. Nothing to see here citizen, move along.
