Rango and Psychonauts Empty

I was just watching Rango. not a great movie. But as I watched, I noticed that one of the townspeople looked ...

... oddly like Ford Cruller from the fabulous game Psychonauts.

It was so offputting that I couldn't stop thinking about it. And then the more I looked, the more I felt that the love interest ...

... looked oddly like the love interest from the same game, Psychonauts.

Am I nuts or no ? A movie from 2011 basing character models on a game from 2005 ? Conspiracy or cooincidence ? Homage or theft ? Or is Uberman finally losing his last couple of marbles ?

I also award myself +10 nerd points simply for thinking about this.

That’s a common practice and not just with characters.

So, yeah. They do do that a lot.

Right, but at least there you're talking about chase scenes in two major, big budget Hollywood movies. Odd that they would copy, perhaps, but understandable on some level.

Psychonauts was a severely underrated platform game that nowhere near enough people actually played. Your average person on the street has no idea what it is, let alone be able to recognise the characters. Which perhaps makes it easier to copy as few people would call you out on it. But then - why copy it in the first place ? That is if it even is being copied and I'm not just seeing shapes in the clouds that aren't really there.

Why? Because they can and because it's much, MUCH cheaper, then creating from the beginning.
