Fable Threeeeee Empty
PostSubject: Fable Threeeeee   Fable Threeeeee EmptyWed Jun 22, 2011 8:23 am

There's no topic for people that have played it.

I have.

It's pretty disappointing. I haven't gotten too far, but it seems like a rehash of every gimmick and feature they though of before, just shoved in to put it there while actually being no fun, and they also reworked the upgrade system, for the worse. Also, the Soundtrack so far is either borrowed from the previous games, or just eh. Fable I and II had good sound tracks.

Also, the balance between being good vs being bad is even more ridiculously weighted towards being good, with the bad options generally being dumb.

I don't quite understand why Peter Molyneux thinks that the best way to improve the Fable series is to dumb it down even further. A sequel should add or improve features, not take them away.

Also, whoever decided that attack and block should be the same button deserves a punch in the stomach.

Oh, good, I'm not the only person who thought that was weird.

PostSubject: Re: Fable Threeeeee   Fable Threeeeee EmptyWed Jun 22, 2011 10:14 am

And magic is still overpowered.

Yes, the Fable series. I REALLY REALLY WANT TO LIKE THEM. But I can't. They sound so good on paper, but then when you actually play them they're kind of shit. Perhaps it's because they're so simple. I also hate the fact that there's basically about five different enemy types in the game and thta's it.

As an aside, this is a real negative for modern RPG games. Back when all RPG game designers had to do was come up with a static graphic and a set of stats, games could have tons of enemy types. Look at ancient RPGs like Wizardy, Bard's Tale, Might and Magic etc. They could have up to a couple of hundred different enemy types, not even counting color palette changes. Even isometric action RPGs like Diablo could handle lots of enemy types. But now that programmers need to make up fully movable 3D models they skimp on the numbers.

Aaaaaaanyway.

All the 'innovative' stuff is bullshit. The time progression stuff actually happens in great leaps rather then a gradual progression. The 'moral' thing is bullshit, you just choose totally good or totally evil, like a bunch of other games these days. The AI is fucking awful. The pet gimmick is overplayed.

I got about 3/4 of the way though Fable 3 and simply put it aside one day and forgot about it.

At least Fable I and II were good games in their own right. Fable was an excellent adventure game, imo. Sure, the morality thing is always kinda bullshit, but whatever, fun is fun. They had a full clothing system, where what you wore actually mattered as far as stats go. You had many different weapons which you could choose from, and which you could customize and upgrade with some sort of rune system. If this game had just a bit more substantial side content to explore, it would have been perfect... oh wait, right, that's Fable: The Lost Chapters. It didn't even let you take off from your original Fable save, but I didn't mind. I played it through anyways, enjoyed the new features they added, and the extra game play was definitely worth the re-doing everything, which was still fun to plow through anyways,

And even though morality its self might have been a bit bs, there were certainly points in the game where choosing one path locked off another, and stuff like that, even if only minor things like side quests.

Fable II ditched stat-modifying clothing, and decided that we'd rather have dyes. Uh, why not both? Also, there are less weapon options, which is kind of boring. Less of a lot of things, actually... Oh well. There's a new economy feature, which is sort of fun-ish for a bit, I guess. Also, you get a dog. It was an obvious, though still nice feature, and
Spoiler:
Also. The world really was much, much more open. At least, they made it feel that way, and with the new Xbox 360 hardware, it looked very nice. So, I can forgive it for its flaws.

But Fable III... the story is ridiculous, the gameplay is completely dumbed down, and the dog feels stale. I dunno if they just somehow managed to mess even that up, or if its just the rest of the game. Also, yay, even LESS weapons! And no runes! Just what I wanted! NOT! Also, now, every time I want to edit my character's getup, I have to go through some overly complex hoopla with walking around and everything. I don't want to play a meta game when I'm changing my clothing. I want to finish the boring part, and get back to actual gaming. And it looks like they shrunk the paths down again, so it's practically linear (I think it might be very close to it). So much for the huge, expansive world I loved.

Also, playing it on my PC, so I can't play it at max settings in all it's glory. Anybody have a report on that aspect with their 360?

It looks quite dull. Maybe it has something to do with the incredibly bland, greyish lighting and lack of contrast. Maybe I'm just not a fan of Fable's art direction. However, the graphics aren't too appealing, stylistically or technically.

So it's just a crap game.

edit: also, just realized I said "fable three" instead of just "Fable" in the very beginning of my last post, second sentence, and fixed it.

I loved Fable 3 despite it's dumb combat, despite it's boring plot, lame final boss, lame managment, lame moral choices. I loved you despite THE MOST STUPID ROAD TO RULE (I wonder , is there any box in my room that will give me a set of expressions like THE RAGE and DAMN YOU PETER). I loved you despite the fact that your release on PC was a fucking long wait. I loved you Fable 3...i loved you with all my heart and childish smile...
How could you do that to me...

Heh, I never played any Fable games 'cause I don't own an Xbox360 an' I'm just way to lazy to play 'em anyway.
But the NEW Fable, I am sure that it will rock..hm..horses an' your cart.
